What we’ve been up to
It’s been a fantastic summer in beautiful South Lakeland and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our summer events, especially our Back to the Beach sessions.
On Monday 10th August, South Lakeland Best Start Family Hubs hosted a free Family Fun Day at the Kendal West Family Hub. It was a great success with just under 100 adults and children attending.
The Fun Day provided families with the opportunity to get advice and support from a range of council departments, including Housing, the Early Help Team, Waste Reduction Team, Early Years Service, SENDIAS, and the Rights and Participation team.
We also welcomed external agencies and partners, such as Active Cumbria, HDFT, Barnardo’s My Time, Brathay Trust, Sight Advice, Occupational Health, Springfield and the Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership.
Hayley from Cumbria Police engaged children with bike marking, dressing up, and other interactive activities, while Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service delighted them with the chance to sit in a fire engine and chat with the crew.
We also welcomed Helen Ladhams, Kendal’s Mayor.
Families were also able to take part in a wide range of activities, including clay modelling, bunting decoration, glitter tattoos, sandwich making, dedicated play areas for babies and pre-school children, and large outdoor games. It was a lively and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
We finished the month with an open day at our Hub in Ulverston on 27th August where families took part in lots of exciting activities and gave their feedback on how they would like the centre to be used in the future.
What we’re looking forward to
On the 9th and 10th September we’ll be at Kendal County Show. Please come and find us in the education tent for fun activities, friendly advice and a good chat.
We have lots of free sessions running throughout September, including Togetherness parenting course, Decider Skills, Understanding Big Feelings, Stay and Plays and more.
