For Homesharers
A Homesharer is someone looking for affordable accommodation who agrees to provide companionship and practical support to a Householder in exchange for living in their home.
Instead of paying full market rent, Homesharers receive affordable accommodation and provide around 10 hours of agreed support each week.
Support may include:
- shopping
- light household tasks
- sharing meals
- companionship and conversation
- helping a Householder stay connected to their community
Homesharers do not provide personal care or nursing care.
Affordable accommodation
Homeshare offers:
- affordable accommodation within the local community
- a practical alternative to private renting
- a comfortable and settled home environment
- a licence agreement that provides clarity for both parties
Homesharers also make an agreed contribution towards household costs, such as utilities and council tax.
A safe and supported arrangement
Homeshare is not a private lodging arrangement.
To help ensure arrangements are safe and successful:
- applicants go through an assessment process
- references and background checks are completed
- Householders and Homesharers are carefully matched
- ongoing support is provided by the Homeshare team
- regular contact is maintained throughout the arrangement
