Teacher Of Humanities (Specialism in Geography)

We are a community school with 884 students aged 11-16 years on roll. Situated in the historic town of Dalton in Furness, we enjoy being on the fringe of the Lake District National Park. Geography and History Department

Our Geography and History departments are led together by one Academic Team Leader and a Subject Leader for History.

The Geography/History department consists of two teachers of History and one full time teachers of Geography as well as a member of the Leadership Team.

The Citizenship/RS department is led by the subjects’ own Academic Team Leader and comprises of another full-time teacher.  RS/Citizenship includes PHRSE at KS3.

This role may involve teaching across all subjects in Humanities but will be predominantly Geography.

Uptake in Geography and History GCSE is high with 3 or 4 groups running year on year.  History follow the AQA syllabus and Geography have recently moved to AQA as well.  Citizenship runs a group each year. The department is housed in rooms together in the main school building.  Geography and History are each taught two 50 minute lessons per week at KS3.  At Dowdales we run 30 lessons per week.  Citizenship/RS are taught together with two lessons per week.  Option subjects each have three lessons per week.

History and Geography run a varied programme of educational visits for students; in recent years they visited Manchester, Munich, Barcelona and Iceland.
