Could you be our next Early Years Bear Grylls?

Outdoor Practitioner – Kendal Nursery School
“Come and play with us… the mud is waiting!”

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Outdoor Preschool Team at Kendal Nursery School.

We are looking to appoint an adaptable, enthusiastic and creative Lead Outdoor Practitioner to help lead our unique outdoor pre-school provision.  This is not just a job — it’s an invitation to step into a world of wonder, adventure and muddy boots.

At Kendal Nursery School, our outdoor spaces are our classroom.  From woodland walks and campfire cooking to den building and growing our own food, every day is built around curiosity, imagination and real experiences.  Our Outdoor Class offers children the chance to learn in all weathers, across all seasons and we need someone special to lead those adventures!!!!

What you’ll be doing
You will lead and shape our Outdoor Class, working alongside experienced Early years staff to create rich meaningful experiences that build on children’s interests and link seamlessly with their wider learning.  You’ll create magical environments, plan real adventures, and ensure children feel safe, confident and inspired to explore.

What we are looking for
We are looking for a fun, experienced outdoor practitioner who is full of ideas and energy, and who genuinely loves being outside in all weathers. You will feel confident leading real, child-led adventures within and beyond our Nursery, following children’s interests and skilfully turning these into meaningful learning experiences.
You will bring warmth, humour and a strong sense of fun to everything you do, seeing possibility in every stick, puddle and patch of mud. Above all, you will have a genuine passion for outdoor learning, and a deep belief that children learn best when they are curious, engaged and immersed in the world around them.

From the children…
We want a grown-up who:
•    will race us down a muddy hill… and then help us build a ramp to go even faster
•    says “let’s try it!” instead of “be careful” … but still keeps us safe
•    helps us turn logs into pirate ships, dens into castles and sticks into magic wands
•    will cook on fires with us and knows burnt marshmallows are the best ones
•    gets excited about worms, bugs and all the tiny treasures we find
•    helps us climb higher, balance longer and be brave
•    knows learning happens when we’re busy, curious and a bit messy
•    listens to our ideas and joins in our stories
•    doesn’t mind going home muddy, wet, smoky… and smiling

Why join us?
Kendal Nursery School is a vibrant, forward-thinking setting where outdoor learning is central to everything we do. You’ll be part of a supportive team who value creativity, professional growth and doing what is right for children.

Most of all…
We are looking for someone who will laugh with us, wonder with us and make every day feel like an adventure.
“Will you come and play?”

Come and see us!
Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.
