The Extra Mile

We're about to begin a bus service for people living in rural areas around Ulverston that do not have public transport. Find out how our pilot scheme going to work.

We're about to start our Extra Mile service. This is for people who live in:

  • the outlying rural areas around Ulverston, based on a 10 mile radius from the town centre
  • those areas around Ulverston that do not have bus services

This is a flexible and bookable bus service. Your journey will be based on where you are and where you want to go.

It will be available:

  • Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm
  • Sundays, 10am to 4pm

Read our news story about new The Extra Mile service.

How the service will work

You will be able to use our app to book and pay for a journey. We will also take bookings and payments over the telephone.

You'll be asked for pick up and drop off time and location. Your request will be matched up with any similar requests made by other people in your community.

We'll then offer you a:

  • pick up location and time
  • drop off location and time
  • a return journey, if you wish

On the day, we'll let you know when the driver is on their way.

Journeys covered

The service covers the Furness Peninsula, down to Roa Island and Roose. From there, it takes in area roughly bordered by the following towns and villages:

  • Stank
  • Newton-in-Furness
  • Askam-in-Furness
  • Kirkby-in-Furness
  • Foxfield
  • Duddon Bridge
  • Broughton Mills
  • Torver
  • Satterthwaite
  • Thwaite Head
  • Witherslack
  • Meathop
  • Grange-over-Sands
  • Flookburgh

Journeys not covered

If your journey is completely within Ulverston town, you cannot use Extra Mile. This is because there are public transport options in this area. Part or all of your journey must be in an area that does not have public transport.

This is a pilot scheme. We're only running the service for the wider Ulverston area at this time.
