How we assess reports
Please provide:
- where the surface damage is located
- type of damage
- approximate size
- add a photo if it is safe to take one
If you are reporting an emergency that requires immediate attention, please call us on 0300 373 3306. An emergency on the highway is defined as something that is very likely to present an imminent threat to life, serious injury or serious damage to property. Our team will assess the severity of your report and escalate accordingly.
Investigatory levels
We do not generally intervene on cracking alone.
We will usually investigate where cracking has led to:
- potholes
- loose surfacing
- depressions
- rutting
- other defects affecting road safety
Defects are assessed against highway safety criteria and risk.
What happens after you submit a report
A Highway Officer will determine whether repair work is required and assign an appropriate priority.
