We're running a consultation on our proposals to introduce new traffic and parking restrictions for the Appleby Horse Fair.
Our proposals are for both on the street and off the street, which include:
- changes to vehicle waiting times
- speed limits
- parking restrictions
- having one way traffic
- changes to access for motor vehicles, horses and horse drawn vehicles
This is not a limited list. You can find full details in our documents section.
Find out how to respond to the consultation and give us your feedback.
Why we're proposing the changes
The Fair attracts many visitors, which causes significant pressures on the roads in the area each year. Working with the Appleby Fair Multi‑Agency Strategic Coordinating Group, we're responsible for keeping the roads safe, orderly and supporting the area.
Our proposals aim to:
- improve safety for drivers, horses, pedestrians and other road users
- allow access for the police and other emergency vehicles
- support the flow of traffic
- reduce conflict between road users
- be appropriate for the character of the area
