Search for a planning application

How to search our planning register and track progress of planning applications.

You can use our online services to view planning applications.

You can:

  • find a planning application
  • view plans and supporting documents (if available)
  • track an application's progress
  • comment on an application, where comments are open
  • find older (archived) planning records

If you already know the application reference number, go straight to your area's search service.

If you cannot find an application

Applications may not appear straight away.

New applications will only show once they have been validated. This means we have checked that all required information has been submitted.

If you cannot find an application:

  • check you're searching in the correct system
  • try searching by reference number, postcode or address
  • try using the map to search by location

Archived planning records

Some older applications may not be available online or may not include full documents.

If you have a reference number

Send the reference number to us by email

We'll provide copies where available. This is free unless you request printed copies.

If you do not have a reference number

Contact us with as much detail as possible, such as:

  • the site address or nearest address
  • the postcode (if known)
  • a description or location plan
  • approximate dates

We'll search the archives and provide what we can. We charge a fee for this service.

The following fees apply for our archive search service:

  • £44 for applications relating to individual dwellings
  • £87 for most commercial or large developments
  • a pre-agreed fee may apply for very complex sites
