There are no scheduled elections on Thursday 7 May 2026 in our area.
Westmorland and Furness Council
This year is what's known as a fallow year, which means that we do not have any elections taking place. This is part of the normal election cycle.
Westmorland and Furness Council elections were first held in 2022. Councillors were elected to serve a five year term of office. During the first year, they were part of a shadow authority. We formally came into being in 2023 and the councillors are now serving a four year term.
Our next scheduled elections for Westmorland and Furness Council are due to take place in May 2027. We'll hold elections every four years after that.
Election to the Combined Mayoral Authority
The election to elect a mayor for Cumbria is due to take place in May 2027.

Parish and town councils
All scheduled parish and town council elections are due to take place in May 2027.
A small number of parish and town councils were due to elect councillors in May 2026 and May 2028. The dates of ordinary elections for these councils were changed in 2025. This was to bring them in line with the majority of other elections in our area. We ran a consultation on these changes through a Community Governance Review (CGR).
