Occupational Therapists (OTs), Occupational Therapy Social Care Workers and Vision Rehabilitation Specialists from Westmorland and Furness Council will celebrate Occupational Therapy Week (2-8 November) by attending community and professional events across the area, highlighting how their work helps people live independently and lead fulfilling lives. Residents will be able to find out more about the support available and the difference occupational therapy can make.

Occupational Therapy Week celebrates the important role occupational therapists play across health, social care and wider society. This year's theme, 'Participation Changes Everything', highlights how taking part in everyday activities supports health, wellbeing and quality of life. Participation can mean spending time with family and friends, enjoying hobbies, volunteering, working, caring for others or simply managing day-to-day life independently.

Occupational therapists from the council will be available at Bridgegate Surgery, Barrow (Tuesday, 10am-12pm), Waste into Wellbeing in Kendal (Tuesday, 11am-2pm) and Ulverston Health Centre (Thursday, 11am-12pm) to discuss the profession, explain how occupational therapy can help, and answer questions about the support available through the council.

Councillor Patricia Bell, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Care at Westmorland and Furness Council, said: "Occupational Therapy Week is a chance to celebrate the vital role occupational therapists play in helping people stay independent and do the things that matter to them. Whether it's returning to or maintaining a favourite hobby, staying active at home or remaining connected to their community, occupational therapists help people overcome challenges and achieve their goals."
