Apprentices with Westmorland and Furness Council were welcomed to a special celebration event as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
Held at Kendal Town Hall, the event opened with senior leaders expressing their gratitude for the hard work, commitment and positive impact apprentices make in communities across Westmorland and Furness.
Attendees also heard an inspiring presentation from the Westmorland and Furness Early Careers and Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (WE CAAN) – a group of apprentices passionate about championing apprenticeships as a rewarding and accessible route into local government careers.
The celebration featured personal stories from apprentices about their career journeys, including Amy Langcake, who recently joined the council as a business administration apprentice after deciding to pursue a new direction.
Reflecting on her experience so far, Amy said: “I’m really enjoying my apprenticeship and the amount of support and opportunities available is incredible. I’m excited to continue developing my skills and to see where my apprenticeship can take me.”
The council currently has 164 apprentices working across a diverse range of roles, including highways and engineering, digital, health and social care, education, business administration, legal, finance and more.
Councillor Jonathan Brook, Leader of Westmorland and Furness Council, told the apprentices: “You are such an important part of this council.
“You bring fresh eyes and ears, with energy into our mix, and you have a key part to play, as we blend your thoughts and ideas with the experience and insights of those of us who have been around for a bit, or indeed a lot, longer!”
The council is preparing to launch its 2026 apprenticeship opportunities at the start of March.
