Time is running out to apply for apprenticeship opportunities with Westmorland and Furness Council.
Applications close at midnight on Sunday 22 March 2026. If you are considering a career in local government, now is the time to take the first step.
The council is offering apprenticeships across a broad range of services, including accountancy, adult social care, business administration, vehicle maintenance, project management, highways and civil engineering.
Opportunities are available at a variety of levels, making them suitable for people at different stages of their career – whether you are leaving school, looking to retrain or keen to develop new skills and qualifications.
Many of the council’s apprentices progress into permanent roles and build long-term careers within the organisation. Former project management apprentice Max Townley is one of those who has successfully moved into a full time position.
Max said: “Doing my apprenticeship gave me the chance to learn new skills, get real experience and work with a really supportive team. It’s what helped me secure the role I have now, and I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship with the council to anyone thinking about it.”
Anyone interested in applying who would like further information or guidance can contact the council’s dedicated Apprenticeship Team on 01539 713434 or email apprentice@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk.
Prospective applicants can also follow @wandf.apprenticeships on Instagram for behind the scenes insights, tips and inspiring success stories from current and former apprentices.
Councillor Janet Battye, Westmorland and Furness Council’s Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Skills, said: “Apprenticeships can be a real springboard into a successful career, giving people the chance to learn on the job while gaining valuable qualifications. We’re committed to helping people across our communities develop their skills and unlock their potential, so I’d encourage anyone interested to apply before the deadline.”
Applications can be submitted online at careers.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/apprenticeships before midnight on Sunday 22 March 2026.
