Having made the decision to place Mansion House on the market, Westmorland and Furness Council are taking steps to secure the site in the coming days. This will involve removing public access to the car parks at the front and rear.
The car parks will be closed from Tuesday 5 May 2026.
This follows the amendment of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to remove the off street parking provisions; this has been in place since November 2025.
This will be limited to the period of the marketing and completion of any sale, with the new owner taking a decision as to how best to secure the site thereafter.
Part of the rear car park will be retained by the Council following the sale and options will be considered as to how best to bring it back into use at that point.
Alternative parking is available on the Council’s nearby Pay and Display Car Parks:
• Bluebell Lane: 130 spaces, short walk to Town Centre, wheelchair accessible
• Sandgate: 130 spaces, central for shopping
• Drovers Lane: 73 spaces, close to town centre
