Westmorland and Furness Libraries are introducing the Menopause Collection as part of our commitment to supporting health, wellbeing and lifelong learning in our communities. Menopause is a natural stage of life, but the journey can feel overwhelming, isolating or misunderstood.
The Menopause Collection from Westmorland and Furness Libraries has been carefully curated by Dr Cath Munro, a GP and menopause specialist based in Kendal, to help readers navigate the physical, emotional and social changes of midlife with confidence.
Dr Munro said the collection is designed to inform, support and empower women:
“The menopause journey can be a challenging time for women. It is important to me to ensure women feel supported with holistic, evidence-based information that provides them with the tools they need to navigate their own journeys. I really hope that this collection will help people of all ages to understand their own experiences and to prepare themselves or support others through this time.”
The collection offers evidence-based information alongside practical guides, personal stories and expert advice. It covers topics such as the science of menopause, hormones and women’s health. Readers can also explore books on fitness and nutrition, highlighting how exercise and healthy eating can support wellbeing, as well as resources on sex and relationships that provide guidance on maintaining confidence, intimacy and healthy connections during midlife.
Councillor Helen Chaffey, the Cabinet Member for Culture, said:
“At challenging times in life, it is always helpful to know where to find the most trustworthy sources of information, support and reassurance. I want to thank Dr Cath Munro for her contribution: this Menopause Collection is a fantastic resource full of with reliable information and positive strategies for navigating this important life stage.”
