The B5285 through Near and Far Sawrey will be closed on Wednesday July 8 for surface dressing to be carried out.
The work will mean that the road will be closed from Lake Bank Coach House to the Windermere ferry between 8am and 5pm.
Pedestrian access and access for dismounted cyclists will be maintained. The road closure order runs for three days but it is anticipated that only one day will be needed.
The ferry will be operating on its usual schedule that day but between 7.50am and 5pm will only be open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Westmorland and Furness Council is investing £3.4 million in a surface dressing programme that, by the end of August this year, will see 67 miles of road sealed with a preventative treatment that improves the carriageway surface and delays the development of potholes for up to 10 years.
Cllr Peter Thornton, Cabinet Member for Highways and ICT, said: "This improvement work is necessary to ensure the road in this area is protected and of a suitable standard for road users. Our teams are constantly working to balance the need to maintain and improve the highway network for the communities which rely on them, with the need to reduce the disruption as much as possible.
"While we understand this work will cause disruption, we are confident it will be for one day one and worth it for the long-term benefits."

The surface dressing programme forms a part of Westmorland and Furness Council’s wider £32 million highways investment plan for 2026/2027, for fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and repairs and improvements to gullies, footways and cycleways, bridges, retaining walls and other structures.
