World Suicide Prevention Day is an annual reminder that our actions, no matter how big or small, can provide hope to those who may be struggling.
Westmorland and Furness Council is proud to support the Orange Button Scheme, which equips people with the skills and confidence to recognise signs that someone may be at risk of suicide and to help signpost them to appropriate support.
Cumbrian charity Every Life Matters can provide this free training to anyone who wants to help make a difference in their community.
To mark the day, Every Life Matters is hosting events in Barrow, Kendal and Penrith, where people will gather to light candles and observe a minute's silence.
The events provide an opportunity to come together, remember those who have been lost to suicide, stand beside people who are struggling, and send a clear message that no one is alone.
Local sports clubs have the opportunity to get involved with Cumbria United Against Suicide, a free county-wide initiative that brings together sports clubs, coaches, athletes and volunteers from across Cumbria to take a united stand against suicide.
The campaign is calling on sports clubs, teams, coaches and supporters throughout the county to get involved, stand together and help save lives.

As a visible show of support and recognition for World Suicide Prevention Day, Barrow Town Hall Clock and Ulverston's Hoad Monument will be illuminated in purple.
Cllr Patricia Bell, Cabinet Member for Adult Care said:
" World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, remember those we have lost, and show support for anyone experiencing difficult times.
it is important that we continue working together to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help when they need it.
By coming together as a community, we can help ensure that nobody feels they have to face life's challenges alone."
