Project description
We're aiming to connect and improve active travel on Abbey road. This scheme is between the junctions of Park Drive and Ratings Lane. It will extend to and connect to another active travel scheme on Abbey Road, from Ramsden Square to Park Drive .
The two schemes will provide an active travel corridor on an important spine road through the town. Together they will connect high density residential areas to:
- town centre retail space
- key employment sites (e.g. BAE Systems)
- schools
- railway stations
- Furness General Hospital
We were awarded funding through the government's Active Travel Fund 4 Extension in 2023, to develop preliminary level designs. We have not yet secured funding to construct the scheme
Timescales
We expect to complete the preliminary design in summer 2025.
