Councillors have said they appreciate the need for investment in major improvements to the wastewater network in the Barrow area – and have sought assurances over the impact of one of the schemes on Waln

Westmorland and Furness residents are being reminded that bin collection dates will be different over the Christmas and New Year periods.

Armed forces veterans came together to celebrate the festive season and share memories at three events hosted by Westmorland and Furness Council.

Today marks a major milestone for Cumbria as the Government has laid the Statutory Instrument in Parliament to formally establish the Cumbria Combined Authority. This is the final legislative step before the creation of a new Mayoral Combined Authority for our region early next year.

Held at Penrith Library on the first Monday of each month from 10am to 3pm, the drop-in sessions are open to anyone aged 16 or over, whether seeking support for themselves or guidance on behalf of a friend, relative or colleague.

Cllr Andrew Jarvis, the council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, said initial assessment of this week’s local authorities funding allocation for the three years from 2026/27 was every bit as bleak as had been anticipated.

South Lakeland residents are being reassured that recycling collected in the area continues to be sorted and processed correctly.

Support for the Armed Forces community in Westmorland and Furness has been strengthened with the appointment of a dedicated Welfare Officer based at Furness General Hospital in Barrow.

Westmorland and Furness Council has successfully secured more than £3.5 million of funding over the next four years to create even more dedicated walking, wheeling and cycling routes.
