When you need to contact us

You’ll need to contact us if:

• someone moves in or out of your property, including if you get married or divorced
• you’ve changed your name
• someone living with you turns 18
• someone has died
• you’re a landlord who has tenants moving in or out of a property

Moving within or into our area

Please tell us:

• your Council Tax reference number (if applicable)
• the full address
• the date you moved in
• the date you were given possession of the property (start date of lease or completion of sale)
• confirmation that you are the sole adult resident (if applicable)
• your previous address if it was in the Westmorland and Furness Council area
• the name and address of the owner (if not you)
• a daytime telephone number

Moving out of our area

Please tell us:

• your Council Tax reference number 
• the full address
• the date the lease was terminated or the sale was completed
• your new address
• the name and address of new owner
• your telephone number
• whether the property is furnished
• name and address of landlord if rented

If you have moved house you may also need to update your details to vote. You will need to register to vote on the gov.uk website.

Registering to pay Council Tax

Please tell us:

• your full name
• the address of the property
• the date you moved in
• the date you were given possession of the property (start date of lease or completion of sale)
• confirmation that you are the sole resident (if applicable)
• your previous address
• the name and address of owner (if not you)
• a daytime telephone number

You'll need to tell the Council Tax team in your area.

Barrow area

Use the online form to tell us if you've changed your name or address.

Tell us online if you've:

• changed of address or ownership
• left or joined a property
• changed your name

Notify us if someone dies

We understand the difficulties faced by families after someone has passed away.

Notify us of a death through the Tell Us Once service which will help to reduce the amount of time you need to spend contacting government departments and organisations after someone has died.

Notify us through the GOV.UK website
