Burneside Road in Kendal is set to receive a new road surface this week as a part of the council’s annual programme aimed at improving roads.

Starting today (Monday 10 July), the resurfacing works will be carried out across a two-week period from the railway bridge near Sparrowmire Lane junction to the access of the new development near Carus Green Golf Club.

In order for our highways teams to complete the works efficiently and safely, the road will be closed from the approximate hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. All efforts will be made to ensure that the road is re-opened to traffic during the evenings, and work is not currently planned to take place at weekends.

Highways teams will be in place to assist with local access for directly affected residents and a signed diversion will be in place for other road users. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the duration of the works.

On completion of the Burneside Road scheme, our team will then move onto Queens Road, including High Tenterfell. The works will also require a full road closure and will operate on the same principal as the Burneside Road scheme, with a planned duration of two weeks.

Cllr Peter Thornton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Assets said: “I’m delighted to see the resurfacing schemes in Kendal come to fruition on two key connecting routes in the town.

Some short-term disruption will be unavoidable, but It’s essential we prioritise these works to improve the road surface, ensuring long-term benefits for road users and surrounding communities.”
