Yellow weather warning for ice and snow in Cumbria

Snowy roadside view down the Hartside Pass valley with bright blue skies

There's no sign of the cold temperatures letting up, with The Met Office issuing a Yellow Weather Warning for ice and snow across Cumbria.

The Westmorland and Furness gritting team will be working days and nights this weekend, treating the roads and clearing snow to keep residents safe while out and about.

We are ready for this cold spell are you? Here’s some top tips for travelling in ice and snow:

  • Check your tyres on your vehicle, stock up on windscreen wash and pack spare warm clothes.
  • Drive cautiously, especially in the early hours to give our grit time to work its magic and keep plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front.
  • Use our grit bins wisely on public pavements and roads to help your community - a tablespoon is enough for a 1m by 1m square.
