A new ‘green’ book collection for children is launching in libraries across Westmorland and Furness during Great Big Green Week (7-15 June).
Westmorland and Furness Libraries is thrilled to announce the launch of ‘Go Green Heroes’, a vibrant and inspiring new book collection for children. The collection features a specially curated range of titles that celebrate nature, encourage eco-conscious thinking and empower young readers to take action for the planet.
With books available for all age groups - from toddlers to school-aged children - the collection includes imaginative picture books, engaging junior fiction, eye-opening non-fiction and fun eco-projects.
The range of books will be available at Barrow Library, Kendal Library and Penrith Library, as well as on request at all Westmorland and Furness Libraries.
Councillor Virginia Taylor, Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Planning, Culture and Community Wellbeing, said:
“This is a really exciting collection of resources which offer wonderful stories to widen horizons as well as practical advice to guide children as they learn about the natural world, understand climate change and feel empowered to make a difference. Exploring what’s on offer will spark curiosity and I hope inspire families to take their own steps towards a greener future. Join us at your local library during Great Big Green Week and take the first step in becoming a Go Green Hero!”
Councillor Giles Archibald, Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Climate, Biodiversity and Environmental Services, added:
“Launching this collection during Great Big Green Week is a timely and meaningful way to inspire our young people. By providing free access to vital resources on climate action and eco-friendly practices, we’re equipping children with the knowledge to make a lasting impact and help play a part in helping Westmorland and Furness lead the way to carbon net zero.”
From The Last Bear, a heartfelt tale of friendship and conservation in the Arctic, to Recycle and Remake which offers creative ways to upcycle at home, the collection covers a wide range of environmental themes in ways that are fun, hopeful and accessible for young people. Whether you're looking to read about daring eco-adventures, learn how to make a bug hotel or simply explore the wonders of our natural world, Go Green Heroes has something for everyone.
