Cumbria Pension Fund has been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s prestigious LGC Investment Awards.
The fund, administered by Westmorland and Furness Council, and part of the national Local Government Pension Scheme, is one of just four shortlisted in the Small Fund of the Year category.
And there’s also recognition for Finance Manager Allison ‘Ally’ McGuinness, who is a finalist in the Outstanding Individual Contribution category.
The LGC Investment Awards celebrate excellence and innovation within the local government sector and this year’s awards received a record number of entries.
Cllr Doug Rathbone, Chair of the Cumbria Pensions Committee, said:
“This is excellent news for the fund and those specifically involved in all the hard work to get us to where we are.
“This is the second year in succession that we have been recognised after being a finalist in 2024 in the Environmental, Social and Governance Innovation category for our work on responsible investment.
“This displays a track record of achievement to the wider market and to our members and I’d like to congratulate the whole team.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 28 November.
There are 109 employer bodies in the Cumbria Pension Fund, with approximately 67,000 members, and assets invested with a value of more than £3.4bn. Westmorland and Furness Council took over from Cumbria County Council as the administering authority in 2023. This change, bringing with it a new set of members, has led to opportunities to review its approach both in terms of efficiency and effectiveness, to ensure it provides excellent services to both employers and scheme members.
Ally McGuinness has worked within the LGPS in Cumbria for more than 40 years and recently played a key role as the fund moved to being administered by Westmorland and Furness Council.
