The Adult Learning Service for Cumbria is celebrating after successfully achieving Matrix accreditation following its latest three-yearly assessment.
The Service, which is hosted by Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council, recently underwent a three-day assessment as part of an accreditation process.
The accreditation, which is a key condition of grant funding, recognises the high standard of information, advice and guidance (IAG) provided to learners and partners across the county.
The assessment involved in-depth meetings with staff, learners and partner organisations and focused on how the service delivers high-quality, accessible support. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with praise for the professionalism, commitment and passion of everyone involved.
The Service was found to be well-positioned to respond to both internal and external challenges and is central to supporting both councils’ wider outcomes and priorities. Staff were commended for their strong understanding of effective IAG, their commitment to meeting the needs of learners and those they work with, and their focus on achieving positive outcomes, while learners reported feeling safe in their learning environments and having their needs met. The service’s strong networks, robust staff wellbeing, and clear brand identity were also highlighted as key strengths.
Councillor Janet Battye, Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, said:
“We are delighted to have passed our Matrix assessment with flying colours. This achievement is a real reflection of the hard work, passion and professionalism that our team brings to supporting learners every day. I would like to thank everyone involved for their contribution. We are proud of this success and committed to continuing to deliver the very best outcomes for our learners and communities.”
Councillor Elaine Lynch, Cumberland Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Development, added:
“My congratulations to all involved – this accreditation recognises the significant impact the work of the team has on learners’ lives and underlines the vital role the Service plays in supporting people at every stage of their learning. Looking ahead, there is always room to build on this success, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our learners and partners to build for the future.”
