An emergency closure has been put in place this morning at Holme Farm Bridge, Appleby.
The bridge is now closed to pedestrians and vehicles. This follows an order earlier in the year prohibiting vehicles from crossing the bridge.
Further underwater investigations have discovered one of the abutments has been undermined and Westmorland and Furness Council officers are now in discussions with the bridge owner about the next steps.
