Part of the A593 is to close next week to allow for emergency repair works on a damaged culvert.
The culvert, near Ellers Brow, Skelwith Bridge, was damaged during the recent heavy rain and needs repairs which require the road to be closed.
An emergency closure will come into effect at 9am on Monday, 10 November, and last until 4pm on Wednesday, 12 November.
A signed diversion route is in place via the A593, A5084, A5092, A590 and A592.
A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council said: “We recognise the inconvenience this unforeseen road closure will cause.
"The recent heavy rain has caused an issue at this location and we have moved quickly to sort it out. Unfortunately, it is necessary to close the road and we appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community, businesses and road users while we make these repairs."
Westmorland and Furness Council is responsible for maintaining 2,600 miles of adopted roads across the area. It is an ageing asset that requires ongoing investment and repair to ensure residents are kept safe and moving.
