Come join Barrow, Kendal and Penrith Libraries in September for 1920s murder mystery evenings set in the Lake District.

The mystery events offer participants the chance to show who is the best detective. Could you be the next Poirot?

Titled ‘Murder at Monksfell Manor,’ the mystery is written by award-winning crime writer Martin Edwards, author of the Lake District Cold Case Mysteries, which have recently been successfully relaunched in a new eBook edition.

Martin will host the evening and will be happy to sign copies of his books. The audience will listen to testimony from the four suspects in the case, before deciding the identity of the murderer, the means, and the motive. While solutions are being judged, participants will listen to a talk on detective fiction.

“My murder mystery events have been staged very successfully in venues around the country and also overseas,’ Martin Edwards said. “I am delighted to have been asked to bring it to Barrow, Penrith and Kendal Libraries.”

Kinga Cichowska, Westmorland and Furness Council Library Development Officer, said: “We are really looking forward to the evenings. Martin Edwards is a popular speaker and writer, and his many awards include the CWA Diamond Dagger, the highest honour in UK Crime Writing.

“Martin has also received the CWA Dagger in the Library, voted on by British librarians, for the quality of his body of work. We are expecting a very good audience and welcome guests to come dressed in 1920s costumes!”

‘Murder at Monksfell Manor’ will take place at 7pm on Thursday 25 September at Penrith Library, at 6pm on Friday 26 September at Barrow Library and at 6pm on Saturday 27 September at Kendal Library.

Tickets are priced at £6 and the evening includes free refreshments. Martin Edwards will be signing copies of his books, including his latest, Miss Winter in the Library with a Knife.
