Westmorland and Furness Council is looking for young people aged 11 to 18 to join a steering group that will help our area become a Child Friendly Community.

Child Friendly Westmorland and Furness is a whole-council commitment to prioritising the rights, needs, and well-being of children, ensuring they grow up in safe, supportive environments that encourage and value their participation. The council are looking for young people who can help turn this vision into reality.

The initiative was launched in October, when children, young people, families, and partners came together to discuss how to make Westmorland and Furness one of the very best places for children and young people to grow up.

The Young People’s Steering Group offers an opportunity to speak up, share ideas, take action, and make real change happen in the area.

What’s involved?

Being part of the steering group includes regular meetings and opportunities to:

  • Make sure young people’s voices are heard
  • Help shape local decisions
  • Work with leaders and organisations
  • Make a difference in your community
  • Meet new people, learn new skills, and have fun

Councillor Janet Battye, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Westmorland and Furness Council said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to be part of this project and to make real change in the area.”
