Job Title: Kitchen Assistant
OP3 £24,404 per annum, pro rata for part time & term time only working.

Job Purpose:
To assist in the day to day running of a busy school kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant will help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive kitchen environment where pupils with diverse needs can learn essential life and vocational catering skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Be responsible for the production of food for 50+ covers.
• Be able to deputise in the absence of the chef lecturer.
• Assist with running of the kitchen ensuring hygiene standards meet current legislation and efficiency of the kitchen is maximized.
• Support with maintaining accurate records in accordance with Environmental Health legislation/requirements.
• Assist with the preparation and setup of ingredients, equipment, and resources.
• Support students during practical catering activities, ensuring instructions are accessible and tasks are adapted to individual needs.
• Promote independence, safety, and hygiene in the kitchen, modelling good practice at all times.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised catering area in accordance with health & safety and food hygiene regulations.
• Encourage and support students to develop vocational skills, including food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and basic service.
• Monitor use of ingredients and equipment, helping to manage stock levels and order supplies when required.
• Participate in school events or enterprise projects (e.g., café service, food sales) that build student skills and confidence.
• Undertake relevant training, including safeguarding, manual handling, and SEN-specific strategies.
