Council opening hours throughout Christmas
Some Westmorland and Furness Council offices will be closed over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays. Read the full list of Council opening hours during the festive period.
Signs are located within designated parking bays and will show how long a vehicle is allowed to park. The parking times vary so you need to make sure that you set the disc at the correct time and return on or before the expiry time to avoid receiving a Penalty Charge Notice.
You must leave the parking bay after your time has expired. You cannot return to the same parking bay for at least the time shown on the sign near the bay, hence the term 'No return within 'X' hour(s)'.
For example, in a ‘1 hour - no return within ‘1’ Hour disc zone bay, if a vehicle was parked and the clock disc was set an arrival time of 10am, the vehicle must leave the bay by 11am. The vehicle is not allowed to re-park in the same bay until after 12pm. This applies even if the whole of the initial parking time was not used.
To avoid any doubt, you should only display one clock disc so that it is easily visible to the Civil Enforcement Officers who will check the time of arrival. If you cannot display a clock disc, we can accept an unaltered written note. However we cannot accept other handwritten notes, such as 'working at premises'.
Markets in Penrith and Appleby can affect parking disc zones.

You will be issued a Penalty Charge Notice if you break any of these regulations.
If you misinterpret the signs or street regulations, you may need to consider parking somewhere else or seek advice.
