20mph speed limit programme updates

We're proposing to introduce 20mph speed limit schemes in parts of Westmorland and Furness. Check the progress of the schemes currently in development.

Since December 2023 we've received a number of applications to introduce 20mph speed limits, covering 79 separate areas in Westmorland and Furness.

We're progressing scheme proposals over a three-year period, which will end in 2027. You can find updates on some of these schemes below.

We're yet to begin working on these proposals. We plan to consult on schemes in 2026.

20mph speed limit consultation

We're currently holding a consultation on 24 proposals to reduce the speed limit to 20mph in certain areas. 

We'll only introduce these schemes if we can show that they're supported by the community, so your feedback is important

We've paused applications for this programme. If you're a town or parish council and intend to join a future programme, you're welcome to let us know now in advance.
