20mph speed limit scheme updates

We're introducing 20mph speed limit schemes in areas where there is community support. Check on the progress of the schemes currently in development.

Since December 2023 we've received a number of applications to introduce 20mph speed limits, covering 79 separate areas in Westmorland and Furness.

We're progressing scheme proposals over a three-year period, which will end in 2027. You can find updates on some of these schemes below.

2024 to 2025 

20mph schemes are now in place in the following locations:

The locality boards agreed to introduce 20mph schemes in:

The installation of these will take place in the first half of 2026.

Initial consultation for these schemes will take place from 9 April to 22 May 2026.
