How to apply for a skip, scaffolding, hoarding or fencing permit.

Hoarding or fencing permit

You must apply for a hoarding or fencing permit if you intend to:

  • erect or take down a building in a street
  • alter or repair the outside of a building in a street

This permit allows you to erect a close boarded hoarding or fence. Permits are normally only issued to the company installing the hoarding or fencing.

Please give a minimum of seven working days notice. For low risk sites we need a minimum of three working days notice.

Other information you need to provide

You also must provide:

  • a sketch showing the width of the pavement or grass verge 
  • a copy of your public liability insurance documents, showing you have a minimum of £5 million of cover
