You need a street works permit if you want to connect and maintain a private sewer connection to a public sewer in the street.

How to complete the application form

Section 1

Please make sure that:

  1. the application details and signatory is that of the owner of the apparatus

  2. you add the postcode

  3. you add valid contact numbers

  4. you include an email address

Section 2

Please make sure that:

  1. you add the full address of property to be served by the sewer, including the postcode

  2. you add the description and location of the sewer

  3. you have allowed up to four weeks for your proposed start date

  4. you include a plan scale 1:2500 or greater of the proposed location of the relevant apparatus marked by a red broken line

  5. you include a copy of the approval from United Utilities to connect into their sewer - ‘S106 Part 1 application to connect to a public sewer approval notice’

Permit conditions

The permit is issued to the owner of the apparatus who is classed as an Undertaker for the purposes of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.  

The permit holder must comply with the relevant duties and responsibilities imposed by the Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice. This liability cannot be delegated to any other person or organisation.
