We're launching a review of our parking services across the Westmorland and Furness area. We want to hear from everyone who lives, works, visits or runs a business in Westmorland and Furness.
The results will shape a new service across the district, supporting residents, businesses, and visitors. It will align with our strategic priorities around:
- climate action
- connectivity
- inclusivity
- economic growth
The survey will review:
- permits, signage, on and off-street parking, and enforcement
- payment methods, machine usability, and accessibility
- the condition of our car parks, usage, disc zones and contracts
- fees and charges - reflecting community need and demand
- provision for Blue Badge holders and how changes may impact different groups
The parking review will deliver a Parking Strategy for the whole council area by Autumn 2025.
The progress so far
Since the review began, we’ve been working hard to gather evidence and listen to what matters most through:
- internal workshops and team meetings
- Locality Board and stakeholder briefings
- outreach sessions in Kendal, Penrith and Barrow
- engagement with Councillors, Town and Parish Councils and partners
This is helping us to develop a draft vision and identify opportunity areas.
