Preparing your property
Flooding is one of our highest priority risks. Events which have happened around the country demonstrate frequency and severity of floods in the UK, highlighting the need to plan and prepare.
Read more about how we are working with our communities to prepare for flooding, including supporting awareness of flood risk and helping community resilience groups to access funding for emergency flood protection measures - such as gel-based ‘flood sacks’ which are an effective alternative to traditional sandbags – as well as property-level preventative protection measures such as flood doors and flood gates.
To help you prepare:
- you can check for flooding on GOV.UK
- sign up to the Environment Agency's flood warnings
- read advice on the Cumbria Prepared website
- read the advice on the Flood Hub website
Information and advice is also available from the Environment Agency’s Floodline.

Report flooding, blocked gullies and drains
There is a large network of drains and gullies across Cumbria. Sometimes they can become blocked and flood the road. If you see a flood, you can report it online.
