Elective Home Education

Elective Home Education (EHE) is when parents choose to educate their child at home instead of sending them to school. This page explains what EHE involves, your responsibilities as a parent, and the support available to help you provide a suitable education.

Elective Home Education (EHE) means parents/carers have ‘elected’ to educate their child in their home instead of in a school. This can be due to several reasons. Parents of children on SEND support or with an EHCP can choose to take responsibility to educate their child themselves at home.

If you wish to consider this, there are some local and national resources that can help you plan your child’s education and keep them safe. We (Westmorland and Furness Council) list many resources for Elective Home Education (EHE).
