Information about care leavers and the Care Leavers Hub
As a care leaver from Westmorland and Furness you are entitled to extra support as you move to being independent.
Here is the local offer for care leavers, where you can find a tool you can use to check on your leaving care status - as this can affect what you are entitled to.
Monday 24th November saw the launch of our new Care Leaver Hub. This hub is within the Family Hub on Greengate Street, Barrow in Furness.
The hub is a shared space downstairs but the upstairs has space that is just for care leavers. The care experienced team are also based at the hub with a duty worker there, if you have any worries or concerns and need someone to help with these. There is also a food pantry, where we can help with food, cleaning and personal hygiene supplies if you need them.
A care leaver ‘drop-in’ is available most Wednesdays, open till late, at the Care Leavers Hub with Participation Workers, Joanne and Sarah.
This gives care experienced young people aged 16+ the opportunity to feedback on services: celebrate successes and raise concerns.
If you would like to find out more or join in with activities then please email rightsandparticipation.waf@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk and one of our workers (Joanne or Sarah) will get back in touch with you.
Start 2026 with a ‘Soups and Smoothies’ making session and meet with other young people and our workers. The care leaver offer is not a static offer and we will be adding new activities each month.
We are currently working with young people to develop the drop ins at the hub, but we hope to include cooking sessions, games nights, social events, film nights and talks from specialist services. We are also looking to develop a group of users of the hub, so that the hub will be continually responding to the changing needs of young people who are care experienced.
Launch of Passport to Leisure – Free Gym Memberships for eligible care leavers.
