Walney Library temporary closure

The library will close on 20 August 2025. Find out what improvements we're making, where to find other libraries and how to access items to download or read online.

Walney Library is getting a fresh new look thanks to investment in refurbishment works.

To allow us to carry out the work, we're closing the library for approximately six weeks, starting from Wednesday 20 August.

We're committed to investing in library services. We apologise for any inconvenience this closure causes, but we hope you'll love the new look.

The improvements we're making

The refurbishment will include:

  • works to the roof
  • new lighting and electrics
  • redecoration
  • new flooring
  • a new reception desk

We'll store items from the library safely and securely during the work in a container placed in the adjoining car park.

Where to find alternative libraries

Whilst Walney Library is closed, your nearest alternative library is Barrow Library. Our staff there will be happy to help you.

Barrow Library is on the Stagecoach number 2 bus route .
