Holiday activities and food (HAF) programme

Westmorland and Furness Council is excited to announce the launch of its Summer Holiday Activity and Food Programme. The program aims to provide a fun and engaging experiences for free for eligible children and young people during the summer break while ensuring they have access to nutritious meals.

With the school holidays fast approaching, the Summer Holiday Activity and Food Programme is provides a wide range of activities for children and young people across the Westmorland and Furness region. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the council, local organizations, and dedicated volunteers and provides up to 16 days for free throughout the summer for children who are in receipt of Free School Meals.

The programme provides an extensive range of activities and experiences available for children of all ages. There is something for everyone, including sports, crafts, outdoor activities such as hill walking and drama groups. The programme's variety ensures that every child can find an activity that sparks their curiosity and enables them to develop new skills and interests.

Not only will the Summer Holiday Activity and Food Programme provide exciting opportunities for learning and growth, but it also addresses the crucial issue of ensuring children have access to nutritious meals. Many families face financial challenges during the school holidays, which can lead to food insecurity for some children. To combat this, the programme will offer healthy and balanced meals to participants, ensuring that no child goes hungry.

Councillor Sue Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Skills Westmorland and Furness Council, said, "We are really pleased to launch the Summer Holiday Activity and Food Programme to support the well-being and development of our young community members. This programme reflects our commitment to creating a nurturing environment where every child has access to engaging activities and nutritious meals. We look forward to a summer filled with joy, learning, and new friendships."
