Westmorland and Furness Council announce the Winter (Christmas) HAF delivery is open for bookings.
The HAF programme is primarily for children and young people who receive means-tested free school meals.
HAF enables children to enjoy free, fun-packed activities and nutritious meals during the school holidays.
There’s something for everyone! The activities are designed to be fun, creative, and confidence-building and can include arts and crafts, sports and games, music, dance, drama and more. Clubs and activities will be run by established community groups, creative arts organisations, sports and leisure providers, youth organisations, and schools in partnership with Westmorland and Furness Council.
There is also a range of providers who can offer activities for young people with additional needs.
A nourishing meal is included.
Families should be aware the system has changed, and they need to create a profile on the new booking system, run by Eequ. If you're a parent or guardian, you can use Eequ to:
- browse local HAF clubs and activities
- view session details and locations
- book places securely online
- manage and update bookings with ease
Eligible children can join the HAF programme for up to 4 days at Christmas. HAF is a response to research that has shown the school holidays can be challenging for some families. The evidence has shown that holiday clubs can have a positive impact on children and young people and that they work best when they provide physical activities, enriching activities and nutritious food.
Funding for the programme has been provided by the Department of Education (DfE) to provide places for children and young people in receipt of means tested Free School Meals (FSM).
Some providers may offer paid for places or offer supplementary places through additional funding which can be discussed with the local HAF team.
Milorad Vasic, Director of Children’s Services at Westmorland and Furness Council said: ‘The HAF programme makes a real difference to children’s experiences during the holidays, and we are very grateful to our fantastic providers for the range of activities that are available. We know it’s an effective way of supporting families.’
Councillor Janet Battye, Westmorland and Furness Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: ‘The HAF programme is a great opportunity for children and young people to have new experiences over the Christmas break and I would urge eligible families to take part.’
