Plan ahead as much as possible and prepare for disruption, including for access and deliveries to properties and businesses on the race route.
The Tour de France will bring large crowds to the area, so it is important to plan ahead if you live, work or travel along the route.
Detailed planning for next year's event has already started and will continue over the coming months. Precise details about road closures, timings, parking restrictions and any impacts on services such as public transport and waste and recycling collections will be confirmed nearer the time.
We do know that road closures will be in place for several hours to keep spectators and riders safe.
Emergency vehicles will still have access at all times and we will be working with care providers and transport operators to minimise disruption to anyone receiving essential care, medical or support visits.
Some nearby roads and diversion routes may also have restrictions to help manage traffic safely for residents, businesses and visitors.
Further details including:
- route timings
- road closures
- traffic and parking restrictions
- what happens to vehicles parked on the race route
- any impacts on waste collections
- pedestrian and cycle access
will be regularly updated on the Tour de France website resident and business information page.
We are planning a programme of public drop-in sessions during the Spring of 2027 to share more information once details are confirmed about how the event will affect Westmorland and Furness.
You can also stay in touch with event details and arrangements by signing up to the official newsletter and find answers to Frequently Asked Questions on the Tour de France Grand Depart website.
