Conclusion and Objectives for 2026 to 2027
We will continue to build a positive culture where everyone takes responsibility for health, safety and wellbeing. This includes:
- providing competency training
- promoting risk assessments and risk controls
- encouraging staff to report incidents
- learning from incident investigations
We will continue to promote a one-team approach to deliver our health and safety objectives.
Key priorities for 2026 to 2027
Our key priorities this year are to:
- update our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy for 2026 to 2026. We will publish this along with this annual report on our website
- deliver our 2026 to 2027 corporate training offer. This includes an IOSH level safety management qualification for team managers
- continue to promote our monthly employee health, safety and wellbeing campaign Together We Work Safely
- develop and launch the Debate not Hate toolkit. This will include training and safety guidance for elected members
- identify and act on the findings of the Corporate Health and Safety Violence and Abuse Audit
- continue to encourage staff across all areas to report accidents, incidents and near misses
- review accident, incident and work-related ill health data. This will allow us to identify trends and make safety improvements
- continue to engage with trade union representatives, partner organisations and contractors on health, safety and wellbeing
- encourage services to raise significant health, safety and wellbeing concerns within their directorate and across the Council where needed
- introduce an improved Council-wide system, to make it easier to report and investigate near misses, accidents and incidents
In conclusion, health, safety and wellbeing remain a top priority for us. They support the vision, priorities and values set out in our Council Plan.
