The role of Behaviour and Emotional Wellbeing Officers (BEWOs)
BEWOs, work closely with Educational Psychologists, to offer help, advice and support to schools and families for pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
BEWOs work with all primary schools across the county via the Early Support process.
Access BEWO support from a school
The school will need to:
- get your consent as the parent
- complete an Early Support referral form
If you feel the service would be useful for your child, ask school for a discussion with their Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).
How BEWOs work
BEWOs do this through:
- discussion and advice (face to face or by telephone), with follow up contact as appropriate
- completing assessments, providing advice, reports and reviews to support the school ‘assess, plan, do, review’ cycle
- completing pupil and classroom observations with feedback
- providing training, resources and signposting
- completing direct work with individual pupils, small groups, parents and families
