Introduction
More than half of children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in Westmorland and Furness go to mainstream schools. If your child has an EHCP, their school place is decided during the assessment and then checked every year in the Annual Review.
If the EHCP says your child needs a special school, a group called the SEND Specialist Placements Panel will help choose the best school. They look at:
- what your child needs
- if there are spaces at the school
- if the school can meet your child’s needs
- what you and your child would like (if possible)
Moving from primary school to secondary school, and then to education after 16, are big changes. The Annual Review will look at what comes next for your child.
