Choosing a school for your child

Special schools teach children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) whose needs are more complex and cannot be met at their local mainstream school.

There are 3 Local Authority maintained Special schools in Westmorland and Furness:

• Sandside Lodge School in Ulverston
• Sandgate School in Kendal
• George Hastwell School in Barrow-in-Furness

Places at Special schools are offered by the Local Authority following EHCP needs assessment.
