If your child needs extra help with their education, health or care, they might need an Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Needs Assessment. If this assessment takes place, an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Co-ordinator will help you with this.
The Co-ordinator’s role is to help during the assessment. They will meet you, either in person or online, to have a Family Conversation.
This is a time for you and your child to talk to the co-ordinator about what your child needs and how they are doing.
What the EHCP Coordinator will do
The Family Conversation will look at:
- what to expect from the 20 week Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Needs Assessment process
- how people will work together, share information and progress
- ask questions that help to see your child’s needs and difficulties in their daily life
- you and your child’s views
- the longer-term hopes, dreams and outcomes that are important for your child.
- who might help in the assessment process
- what additional support might be available
- understanding what is going well and what is not going so well
- what is stopping your child doing the things they want to do
Thinking ahead
The EHCP Coordinator will also want information about your child’s future. This might be:
- being included in the community
- finding a job
- living independently
- staying healthy
