SEND in the early years (0 to 5 Years)

The early years are the most important for your child’s development.

Children need to have high quality care, understanding and the correct support to achieve their full potential.

Some children have additional needs when they are born, and some are identified as they begin to grow. It is important to identify any additional needs, as early as possible, to allow the correct support for your child to thrive.

It is the responsibility of all professionals (health, social care and/or education) to get this support right, for both you and your child.

The SEND Code of Practice (PDF, 3.3MB) contains further information on the legal duties for families and children with additional needs.
