Finalising an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
If an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) shows that your child needs an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), we will prepare a draft EHCP and send it to you.
Review the draft EHCP
You will have 15 days to review the draft plan.
During this time, you can:
- ask for changes to the draft EHCP
- comment on information included in the plan
- request a particular school, college or education setting to be named in Section I of the EHCP
Any requested changes should be linked to the advice and information gathered during the assessment process.
We recommend visiting schools or education settings before asking for them to be considered. This can help you decide which setting is right for your child.
Request a personal budget
When you receive the draft EHCP, you can request a personal budget.
A personal budget is an amount of money identified to help meet some of the needs set out in an EHCP.
Consulting education settings
We must consult the school, college or education setting you have requested.
We may also consult other settings if we think they may be suitable for your child.
Schools and education settings have 15 days to respond to a consultation. They must tell us whether they can meet your child's needs and offer a place.
Receiving the final EHCP
Once we have considered your views and completed the consultation process, we will issue the final EHCP.
You will receive a copy of the final plan.
We will also send a copy to the school, college or education setting named in Section I.
Support in place
When a school or education setting is named in an EHCP, it must admit the child or young person and provide the educational support described in the plan.
