Sixth forms

Sixth Forms provide education for students in year 12 and 13 so they can get qualifications to take them onto the next stage of their career.

They offer a variety of courses and not all 6th forms offer the same. The courses available can include:

  • pre-formal and semi-formal educational pathways - depending on the young person’s attainment levels
  • A-levels
  • vocational courses, for example, Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC)

These are centres based in schools, offering courses beyond General Certificate Secondary of Education (GCSE). The majority of courses are A levels, some centres offer level 2 courses.
